11-11-11

Today is 11-11-11. For obvious reasons this day is unique. It’s not very often that we have a month, day, and year, all with the same number. For the past 11 years it has happened once every year. Next year is that last year that it will happen until we reach 2101, at which time they will have 01/01/01 again. So today is one of 12 occurrences every 100 years. However this is not the only special feature of today. Today is also veterans day. On this day 93 years ago, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, November 11, 1918, the fighting in World War 1 ended. One year later, President Woodrow Wilson declared that November 11 would be Veterans Day in America and we would celebrate and honor those who fight and have fought for our country. And it was on this day, two months and 10 years ago, that the twin towers and the pentagon, were attacked with acts of terrorism, killing thousands of American citizens. So today is no ordinary day. This specific day, November 11, 2011, will never happen again. This special arrangement of numbers won’t happen again for another 100 years. But this day of remembrance, November 11, will happen again next year. We will be given the chance once more to remember where we have been, the trials and wars we have fought, the soldiers and civilians that have given their lives for our freedom, and the families who mourn the loss of life that comes with war. So today is no ordinary day. But then, what day is ordinary? Wasn’t September 11, 2001 at 7am an ordinary day? “Ordinary” is dependent on what will happen, and we can never know that till it’s here. So lets not live life as if this is an ordinary day. Instead lets live like this is a special day, a unique day, and a day that will never happen again. Because it won’t.
